The people who created and staff ReNew Organic Day Spa are experienced in the day spa industry and dedicated to a balance between Body, Mind and the Earth.

 

Shelley Birnbaum, a licensed Esthetician in Maryland, has been practicing skin care for over 15 years. For most of her adult life she has been a staunch supporter of environmental issues, and for the past 25 years she has been an advocate of alternative medicine, natural health, healing and well being. This led her to study aromatherapy and herbology, as well as the ancient traditions of the Auryveda Rejuvenation treatment and Chakra Balancing. Providing facials is her most popular service, closely followed by waxings. Shelley is also known for a variety of other body treatments, as well as make-up application. She has even developed her own treatments, including an after-wax solution to help soothe the skin and remove wax residue.

“By encouraging the skin’s natural resources through non-invasive treatments, using products that have combined healthy organic ingredients with the latest scientific knowledge, and a healthy lifestyle, I know you can attain beautiful healthy skin that looks ageless,” Shelley says. “I believe in helping clients by equipping them with information to help themselves, and to achieve these results not only with my treatments, but with their own care at home too.”

In 2005, Shelley decided to open ReNew Organic Day Spa with Massage Therapist Sherrie Tennessee. At ReNew, she is bringing to life her dream of fusing her two passions of holistic skin care and contributing to a healthy planet.

 

 

Sherrie Tennessee is a licensed Massage Therapist and is certified with the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCTMB). She is trained in Seated, Swedish, Deep Tissue Massage, Thai, Shiatsu, Myofacial Release and Healing Stone Massage, Aromatherapy and Reflexology. Sherrie is also certified in Fertility, Pre and Post Natal Massage, as well as Infant Massage instruction. Her philosophy is that a holistic approach starts with a healthy lifestyle. In addition, she is a certified Nail Technician.

“I know massage therapy enhances body awareness and reconnection of the mind and body,” says Sherrie. “Getting and staying on the road to wellness, and creating a retreat from the day-to-day grind is provided for each of my clients based on their individual physical and emotional needs.”

Sherrie also has a B.S. degree in Biology from Norfolk State University. Education and teaching are a passion for Sherrie, and for the last three years she has been an Instructor at the Baltimore School of Massage. Her passion for educating her clients is shown by the desire she has to present self-improvement techniques, and by teaching infant massage and couples massage. After working in the spa Industry, both as a practitioner and an instructor, Sherrie is now combining her passions in the creation of ReNew Organic Day Spa with business partner Shelley Birnbaum.

STAFF

 

Missi Kibelbek is a Certified Massage Therapist who has been practicing since she graduated from The Baltimore School of Massage in 2000.  She is state licensed and nationally certified, trained in Swedish, Deep Tissue, Healing Stone Therapy, Thai, and Mother Massage.  She also earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Education from University of Maryland College Park in 1994.  This fall, she will pull from all of her education and experience when she becomes an instructor at The Holistic Massage Training Institute in Baltimore.

 

Tarsha Johns is a licensed Nail Technician with 14 years of experience. A graduate from the Fame School of Design in 1993, Tarsha has been working with two well-known mobile companies, Nail Taxi and Sparty, where she specialized in natural nail care. Tarsha’s specialty is pedicures and is seeking certification as a Master Pedicurist. In the future she hopes to become a Podiatrist where, in her words, she will take the Pedicure to the next level.

 

Jennifer Grimes is a licensed Esthetician who enjoys sharing her love of luxurious, organic products with her clients. With a good basic education in skincare and makeup, she became licensed in Maryland in 1988 and has continued to pursue interests like Shiatsu, Yoga and Tai Chi that enhance her practice. In her free time, you can find Jen cooking healthy foods, gardening and enjoying all that Hampden has to offer with her French bulldog, Otto.
